Jewelry Questions

Celtic Jewelry Uk

Q.A few days ago, a message was posted regarding a young lady named Robbin who was importing Celtic jewelry from Ireland. I have been in touch with Robbin, and she was astonished to learn that her name and number had become so readily available to those who might need it. I don't think she was offended or upset by this, but she would like to know who posted the original message. My infoserver has since deleted the message, so I can't find out from here. If one of you gentle souls can locate this original message, and repost it to me here or at the address below, she and I would both be eternally grateful.

A.For those of yuo who haven't been around the net long, and for those of you who might have overlooked a detail or two, I'd like to put on a Mr. Manners screen decoration (you couldn't see a hat anyway): Folks, this newsgroup in on usenet news. It is accessable around the *world* (and if you look at some of the posters, you'll see folks from the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia, as well as North America. There are currently *zillions* and *zillions* of people reading the net, at colleges, at home, on Compu$erve, Genii, etc. Many of them don't post, only lurk, as do many people in a conversation at a party. Unfortunately, the net is no longer this exclusive little community, there are nuts and nastys out there (some may be snickering over this post). PLEASE DO *N*O*T* post any individuals home address or phone no, or even full name (if they do not normally use it), unless you have *explicit* permission from them to do so. Reading a newsgroup is a *lot* more personal than picking a name from a phonebook, and we all let folks know a lot, perhaps more than we intend, about our personal lives. At least one or two people have spoken of being stalked, and I know of one person who may have been harrassed at work by a coworker, partly due to spinoffs (like emaail) from this newsgroup. I (the guilty poster) must add that, of course, you must explain fully the public and global extent of the Usenet versus e-mail before obtaining the "explicit permission". For example my conversation with ____ about a week before the post in question went something like: me: "I've seen a request on the net for addresses and numbers of makers or sellers of celtic jewelry. Would you mind if I posted a reply; it could bring in some extra business." or something to that effect, with nothing explaining the net and she said something like "Yes, luv, by all means, here's my number, but they may get my answering machine first." But obviously she didn't know about the public and global nature of the net, or thought I would e-mail the reply. I agree with Mark's comments and plan to make amends this weekend. Unfortunately, the world is not the open, friendly place most of us work towards, and not everyone wants to be as open as I try to be.
